There are many reasons to visit and fall in love with Italy. The cuisine is well-known and the history is tied together with the political and cultural development of at least the European continent, but the amount of beautiful views and places is difficult to witness without being there. These photos hopefully give a hint of the the places we saw in Rome and during a roadtrip to the regions of Tuscany and Umbria in April 2017. There are many different places for skiing, but one of the most beautiful areas has to be in the Canadian Rockies. That's at least my feeling after making a roadtrip between resorts such as Fernie, Whitewater, Red Mountain, Revelstoke and Kicking Horse. We tried backcountry skiing (or snowboarding for me) in majestic mountains and serene pine forests with deep pockets of pure white and fluffy snow.
Myanmar (or Burma as the country was known before) is a magical place. Filled to the brim with golden pagodas, pristine beaches, kind people and delicious food it is a joy to visit. We had the opportunity to travel for three weeks between Mandalay, Bagan, Kalaw, Nyaung Shwe by Inle Lake, Ngapali Beach and finally Yangon and as you can see in the following pictures it has the possibility to become a great travel destination!
This year's hike in northern Sweden was from Kvikkjokk to Saltoluokta along Kungsleden (or the King's Trail in English). Skirting the edges of Sarek, one the most pristine national parks in Sweden, there were ample possibilities to photograph remote wilderness and majestic landscapes. One of my passions is snowboarding and this spring I had the possibility to visit Serre Chevalier in southern France. Travelling with UCPA the group had the luxury of having a mountain guide helping us to find the best snow in the area, including Montgenèvre and legendary La Grave in addition to the slopes in the Serre Chevalier system.
Last October, I had the possibility to return to New York for the first time in 25 years and also visit Boston for the first time. It turned out to be a lovely way to see beautiful fall colors as well as being awed by the majestic scale of everything "over there".
New York is a lot to take in, from bagels and Brooklyn to kimchi in Koreatown. And a couple of skyscrapers and shops thrown in between. First stop was the High Line elevated park:
For me the three days (too few) in town were mostly spent walking around and getting to know the city. I was surprised how easy it was to see Manhattan on foot, and crossing the Hudson to get to Williamsburg and the rest of Brooklyn.
It was impossible for me to leave the city without witnessing Ground Zero:
However, a metropolis like the Big Apple survives and moves on from such horrible events and keeps evolving from its multicultural roots.
The Pena National palace in Sintra is a lovely excursion from Lisbon. In a lush green mountain setting just an hour's train ride from the city it's a fantastic show of what architectural fantasy can produce with enough money and resources. The colorful palace has housed both monks and kings and is a unique experience also for a photographer.

As wintertime inches closer, it's nice to remember summertime. For me, one of the best memories was a week of hiking along the King's trail (or Kungsleden in Swedish), from Abisko to Nikkaluokta in the far north of Sweden. A week of nature, cold mountain springs, silence and no Internet. Definitely an experience I would recommend others to try once in a while.
